Brakes and Throttle- CWRU Baja
Since joining the CWRU Motorsports Baja team in Fall 2022, I've focused on the design, analysis, and manufacturing of brake and throttle systems. Last season our team placed first overall at the 2023 Baja SAE Ohio competition.
Key Achievements:
First Place in Overall Competition: Baja SAE Ohio 2023
Second Place in the Endurance Event
Second Place in the Maneuverability Event
Third Place in the Acceleration Event
In my role as Brakes and Throttle Lead, I spearheaded the design and optimization of both front and rear brake rotors. Using SolidWorks, I performed comprehensive FEA analysis and applied topology optimization techniques to ensure the components were lightweight yet robust enough for rigorous racing conditions. This involved detailed simulations and iterative design improvements to achieve optimal performance.
I also played a crucial role in redesigning the throttle pedal assembly within the pedal box. By transitioning to a bottom-mounted design, I improved the ergonomics and overall driver comfort. This modification not only enhanced usability but also contributed to better control and responsiveness during races.
My work extended to researching and selecting appropriate brake pad materials to maximize performance. I analyzed and optimized the rotor contact patch to ensure efficient braking and reduced wear. This involved balancing various factors such as thermal performance, friction characteristics, and material durability.
